There should be more hours in the day.

I’m having one of those days where I feel like I’ve abandoned the blog. I know it’s only been a week, but I’m definitely struggling with the aspect of ‘not enough hours in the day’.

I already have been getting up earlier than normal to work on the photography business (editing and the etsy shop), and then I’m at work from about 8:30-5 (and usually get a run in on my lunch hour. Also, I love my job.), and then it’s time to head home, make dinner and spend time with the other half. At this point, we’re usually just trying to catch up on our favorite shows, or I’m reading a book. Sometimes, depending on how many shoots I’ve had, it’s back to do some more editing. We’re usually in bed around 8 PM since we’re both up early.

So needless to say, I’m having a hard time attempting to fit the blogging in too.

I know. The answer is to start planning posts, and scheduling them ahead.

Yes – easier said than done. Especially when you don’t really have the time to brainstorm, write, edit, schedule, etc. It’s a challenge. And I’m totally envious of all of those bloggers out there who can do it.

My goal for this blog wasn’t to post each day about what I did that day, what I wore, what I ate, etc. It was created to be a creative outlet for me. However, lately, I’m feeling like I’m even lacking there. And I’m even putting pressure on myself to be that blogger who posts daily.

But I’m taking a step back. I don’t HAVE to write daily. I don’t HAVE to write if I don’t want too, or if inspiration hasn’t hit. I wish I could be like my favorite blogs I read every day. I really do. Their blogs look amazing, they appear effortless, and are so much fun to read. I look forward to them every day (you can check a few of my favorites out in my Blog Roll!). But right now, I just don’t have the time to devote here every day. My life is busy. And I want this blog to be enjoyable, for all parties. It’s not fun for any of you reading this for me to just be ranting about my day (kind of like I’m doing here… I suppose….sorry!). I mean, unless something interesting happened of course!

So, if I’m coming to realize that it’s okay if I disappear. I never set a standard that I’d post every day. I simply wanted this as an outlet to write, whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Hence why it’s a glimpse into my life. So back to the roots I go. A little of this, a little of that, with some healthy living stuff, and some photography, and just all around me.

But only when I feel like it of course. (Hopefully that will be a little bit more often!)

And thanks to all who subscribes, follows, stops by, and so on. I really do appreciate each and every one of you. I’m glad to know my rantings are enjoyed…. at least some of the time 😉

My Goal: Just to Have the Time of My Life

TGIF! Happy Friday all!

We’re finally getting some spring-like weather up here in New England (complete with what may be some early April showers monsoon type weather). And by early, I mean essentially the entire last few days of March. At least it will be in the 40s… except for Sunday. Which will be in the 30s. Have no fear, spring appears to be on it’s way!

All I can say is…we better have a LONG HOT SUMMER. I won’t even complain this year if we get multiple heat waves. I will bask in it. Seriously.

So with spring and summer finally on it’s way, it got me thinking about my goals for this year – the things I want to accomplish so I can look back and remind myself how the spring/summer/fall of 2014 will be one of the best years yet!

1. Learn to Paddleboard – I live by the ocean. I should at least learn to do something water related (besides swim of course. I’ve been able to do that since I was a kid!). Paddleboarding just looks like so much fun, while being a great workout, while enjoying the summer weather. Thankfully, Sierra works at a Paddleboarding place in the summer and said she will teach me. Hooray!

2. Run a 5K – I’ve been saying this for probably 5 years now. Maybe even longer. But for the first time in a very long time, I feel like I can stick to training and learning how to run. I am totally getting a runner’s high when I run now. Even when I’m sucking wind after just a couple of minutes. After I’m done, I feel like a new person. And I can’t wait to do it again. This time, I’m sticking with it. Hopefully tonight, I’ll be hitting the road for the first time since it will be close to 50. Got to build up the stamina there since I can’t run a race on a treadmill!

A few spring/summer/fall options for 5K’s in the area are:

  • Flag Day 5K – Saturday, June 14th (It benefits the 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldier Assistance Fund; I grew up with his family. It also falls 2 days before my birthday. Which would be an amazing experience to finally reach a goal before my birthday!)
  • The Nate Bibaud 5K – Saturday June 29th
  • Yankee Homecoming 10 Mile and 5K – Tuesday, July 29th (it’s during Yankee Homecoming, a Newburyport tradition)
  • 25th Annual Apple Harvest Race – Sunday, October 5th

Who knows! Maybe I’ll be so ready by June I can run all of them. However, I’m just going to go with the flow and know that I have at least 4 ahead of me that I could do! Just need to keep up the training!

3. Travel – Last summer, we took a week off and basically just hung around and took in the sites close to home. This year, I want to travel. I hate flying, but I love visiting new places. We’ve already planned at July trip to Rota, Spain for 10 days to visit my best friend and her husband. A fall trip is also in the works so we can celebrate the other half’s birthday and start planning our wedding (HOORAY!!!). I’m also hoping we’ll get to do some fun weekend trips, as long as money allows!

4. Enjoy Every Minute  – I feel like every summer goes by in the blink of an eye. Suddenly it’s September and I’m looking back wondering where the hell the summer. Come September this year, I don’t want to look back and wonder where it went.

  • I want to look back and say ‘That was the best summer ever.’ I want to spend time at the beach, or by the pool, and attempt to get a tan (I burn usually… I’m Irish).
  • I want to take long walks in the summer evenings, or the early mornings, before the humidity sets it.
  • I want to have campfires and gatherings, and endless nights that we will talk about for years to come.
  • I want to be outside as much as humanly possible.
  • I want to travel around with my camera and create a personal portfolio I will be oh so in love with.
  • I want to have the time of my life.

Feet, Activity, GF and Books – A Round Up

Well hi there!

I figured I would do a little update post today as opposed to a ranting post, a learning post or a post about someone else. I mean, this is after all a look into my world! I mean, I do the other posts because let’s face it, my life is pretty ho-hum every day. I have the same routine for the most part – get up, go to work, go to the gym/work out (if I don’t do it in the AM), eat dinner, go to bed and do it all over again the next day. Hence why I try to throw some different things in the blog!

Update time.

The foot: If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, then you would know that I’ve been fighting a foot injury since September ’13. I was diagnosed with metatarsalgia, a possible neuroma, and finally a stress fracture. After nearly 3 months a boot, and not feeling any better, I moved to see an orthopedic and began following a new treatment plan. He felt it wasn’t a stress fracture and just an overuse injury, and prescribed PT and orthotics. Since I can’t really afford orthotics, I bought regular inserts to help with the issue.

I’ve been in physical therapy for just about a month, and unfortunately, there is has been no improvement. We’ve tried stretching twice a day, heat, ice, ultrasound, elec stim and massage. I get temporarily relief day of, but then the pain comes back. Thankfully (or maybe not…) the pain has localized, and PT is thinking it’s a inflammation issue. I go back to the doctor next week and we can start working on the next steps. I REALLLYYYY don’t want to get into cortisone shots if I don’t have too, so I’m hoping he will suggest something else. I guess we will see! I mean, if he thinks it will help, obviously I’m going to probably do it.

The view from my table this AM.

The good news with all of this is I haven’t been letting the pain keep from being active. I’m still going to the gym, but just doing the elliptical, arc trainer or bike, and still riding when I can (as long as the pain isn’t bad). I think at this point, if I couldn’t be doing something, I would be going crazy. And having the 100 Days of Active is keeping me motivated too!

And that leads me too…

100 Days of Active: So far…. I have completed, 4 days out of the 100. Thankfully I figured out that it was like 110 days to my birthday, so it gave me a couple of days to play with. Unfortunately, I was already negotiating my own goal on day 2…. but now I’m getting into my groove. Today will be day 5 with 104 days until my birthday! I was hoping to ride tonight, but with the foot pain pretty bad today, looks like I’ll be doing my laps at the grocery store with some pilates when I get home!

exercise

Last night’s work out. My goal is always to do a 5K on the elliptical. I’ve been doing them in just about 37 minutes. Last night I did it in 35! (My HRM went a little longer than the workout!)

Gluten-Free: Two words that seem to be everywhere these days. And as of this week, I guess I can add it to the list of things about me too. Yep, I’ve gone GF. Well, I’m trying.  It’s only really day 1, since I ate a ravioli yesterday (and proceeded to die after),

After a lot of trial and error, it appears that I have a sensitivity to gluten. To the point that when I eat things with it, I pretty much feel like I’m dying. So I’m trying to stay away from it. Which is hard. Because I love bread, bagels, crackers, cookies, pizza, calzones, beer…. pretty much all things gluten. But I know if I really do have an intolerance, I’m only going to feel better. So that’s my focus. Thankfully, there are so many good GF foods and recipes out there now… it’s become so common that it’s easy to handle these days. I’m just completely overwhelmed right now, but hoping I’ll feel less that way as the days go on. I know my body already feels less bloated and angry. So that’s a win!

Last night's dinner - Tuna with sriacha, celery and tomatoes on lettuce with a dill pickle on the side!

eryn e photography: I never post photo business updates here anymore, but it is part of my world, so here you go. I’m excited for my 3rd year in business and I’m hoping this will turn out to be my busiest year yet. I’m already starting to book up, and I’m excited to expand my client base. Having said that, if you read this and are in the MA/NH/ME area, and are interested in having photos done, I’d love to chat with you! You can visit my website for more information, e-mail me, or leave me a message in the comments and I’ll get back to you. I’m also running mini-sessions on May 4th in Newburyport if anyone is interested (see flyer below!)

Spring-Mini-Sessions-2014

E-mail me if interested and in the area!

Book Goal: I’ve read 18 books out of my 100 goal. I’m on book 19 now. If I keep this up, I’ll definitely make 100 books by the end of 2014. Check one more thing off of my bucket list. I’m currently reading ‘The Man Who Left‘ by Theresa Weir. If you ever want to keep up with things I’m reading, feel free to friend me on GoodReads! My goal on there says I’m behind, but it’s because a couple of books I’ve read I couldn’t find on GoodReads.

Alright, I think that’s good on the updates.

Have a wonderful day!

Weight Watchers Update and Foto Friday

Happy Friday all!

Before I jump into Foto Friday, I wanted to do my weekly Weight Watchers update. Today was my weekly weigh-in and I am happy to report I was down 2.8 lbs! Here are the totals so far.

Starting Weight (1/2/14): 199.3

Last Weigh In for WW (1/17/14): 192.5

Current Weight (as of this AM): 192.5

Current Loss to Date: 6.8

My goal is to be down 15 by Valentines Day – just over a month to lose about 8.2 lbs. I think I can do it! Especially getting the gym back in the equation this week.

Okay – now for something I’m hoping to bring back. FOTO FRIDAY! As many of you know, my side profession is a photographer. I have loved photography since high school and began eryn e photography in 2011. While the business has become a lot of amazing families, I still love getting out there and snapping random scenes. Since my camera is currently in the shop for some repairs, I decided to have some fun with my iPhone 5S this AM on my way into work. I edited it with ‘Filtergram‘.

Usually I post a little blurb to go with the photo, but today – I’m not. I want to hear what comes to mind when you look at this photo! And for the record,  I did pull over and stop my car to take this. Always be safe when taking pictures on the road 🙂

Please no stealing :)

Foto Friday!

As part of the ‘reinvented’ blog, I’m always trying to think of new things I can do, besides just write. Since it’s a look inside my world, whether it be books, health/fitness, photography or just my musings of the day, I need to plan accordingly. I’m hoping as I delve deepper into the blogging world, I’ll have a bit more of a schedule for things. But for now, since not a whole lot of new stuff is happening, I decided today would be Foto Friday!

What is Foto Friday you ask?

Foto Friday is going to be a day where I post a random photo from my personal collection of works, or possibly a really cool photo from a past photo shoot, and maybe write a little snippet or something that goes along with it! Maybe it will spark some creativity in me.

Anyways, welcome to the first Foto Friday. My one rule – please don’t take screen grabs of these photos. If you’re interested in any of them, please let me know. 🙂 Also – if you’re interested in seeing more of my work, make sure to like eryn e photography. You can either like it on the side bar, or visit here!

PI6

My love for photography began at the beach my sophomore year of high school on Plum Island. To this day, it is still one of my favorite places to photograph, both personally and professionally. I recently had family photos done and my engagement photos done, forever capturing one of my favorite places.

I love black and white photography; while I don’t go black & white unless I feel the picture really calls for it, I just love how it can capture a mood, a feeling or just enhance the effects of a photo. This photo was taken in early August. Summer was starting to wind down, but the weather was still perfect. I was waiting for a client to arrive for their session so I wandered around the boardwalk snapping pictures as I went. I love the depth of field in this. I love how it came out.

Photos can spark a different emotion in every person. For me, the blurred out boardwalk represents the start of summer. It seemed like early June was just upon us and suddenly, it’s just a blurred memory.

Does this photo spark any emotions from you? If so, what?

Adventures with a camera

It’s hard to believe that 3 weeks has passed by since my last post. I promise… I will be better about this. Since the last post, I’ve been a very busy gal complete with photo shoots, photography class and life in general. In the moment, life seemed overwhelming, but looking back on the last three weeks, I can remember everything I have done.

I had a photo shoot with a familiar face where we had an excellent time with the horses outside (despite it being a bit chilly out!)

I’ve been busy with a photography class on Monday night, improving my skills and continuing my quest for the perfect picture. This has allowed me to do my ‘homework’ on the weekends, during my normal photography outings. Needless to say, I feel like I’m starting to branch out of my comfort zone in terms of shooting techniques (maybe not the subject matter though) and am feeling more confident about taking the best pictures possible. The latest assignment was landscapes and the Rule of Three.

But my favorite thing to do (when it happens of of course) is to chase the moon.

Ta-ta for now!

Tutus, Beaches and 2012!

2012 has officially arrived. With the arrival of  a new year, also means the arrival of new goals and resolutions, as well as new adventures. 2012 is bound to be a year filled with new experiences and I couldn’t be more excited. More on that down the road.

On Friday night, I had an early New Years celebration hanging out with three wonderful girls. It was a nice complete with makeovers, tutu’s and dance parties. Each of the girls had a custom-made tutu made by the talented Joanne from Custard Shoppe, and they were not your typical tutu. The colors were ever so vibrant and reflected each of the girls personalities to a t! We danced and modeled and just had a fantastic evening.

With the arrival of the new year, I decided to take off on the beautiful 50 degree day and learn my new camera just a bit further. Today was the day that I focused on keeping my camera on manual at all times and had full control on how my pictures came out. While it was difficult and was frustrating at times, I did manage to gather some fantastic shots. Once in a while, I did put it back on Landscape mode, but kept everything else on manual. Needless to say, I was pleased with how the images turned out.

I also tried my hand out at HDR photography. It is tricky, and when done right, can create some surreal and unreal looking images. I was pleased with the result as well, and now know just how it needs to be done.

So bring on 2012 – its bound to be a year full of excitement!
