Running is fun

I am evidently HORRIBLE at keeping up with my blog. I am no longer going to hold promises I can’t keep aka updating the blog weekly. I’m just going to let it happen when the moment strikes.

Today is going to be an… unusual post for me (but don’t worry, I will still have updated pictures as well!)

Let me start off by saying that for the first time in my life I am able to consider myself a runner, definitely still a beginner runner, but a runner nonetheless. I’ve always been able to walk (as in power walking for exercise, but not run) Not a great runner or anything, but I am now able to run a mile. I have NEVER been able to run a mile. This is a HUGE feat for me. And I can run it in 11 minutes (again, not a great runner). Today was the first day I ran for 20 straight minutes. Another first in my life. I am absolutely on top of the world. I now understand what it means to get that ‘runner’s high’. I can’t wait to get back out there and challenge myself to see how long I can run for next.

This all started by finally gaining the courage (and support from several around me) to train and run for a 5K. I’ve been saying for years now that I was going to do Couch to 5K, and yet I’ve never done it. I’ve started it and never finished. This time, I decided just to run. I don’t recommend this to anyone if you haven’t been working out. We’ve been doing a walking program at work, so my body was already used to walking between 3 and 6 miles per day, so I knew my stamina was much better. Evidently, it was much better than I thought.

I thought it was going to take me three months just to train for the Yankee Homecoming 5K. At this rate, I may be ready for the 1st Annual Flag Day 5K in June!

But, in true Eryn fashion, since it’s not a true blog post without at least one picture, here is what I finished my evening with.

Thankfully I had my camera with me. The sunset was absolutely STUNNING tonight. Oh how I love summer spring weather.

  1. Eryn, I am so proud of you and can completely relate to absolutely EVERYTHING you said in this post! I too am truly understanding and appreciating the feeling that all runner’s must have. Why else is there such a large community of them, that keep it up!
I am not a great runner either, but each week I get that much closer and can’t wait to complete my first 5K in full run.
Together, we’ll do it! Woo Hoo!
